Split is located in southern Croatia and is the chief port city of Dalmatia. It sits along the beautiful Adriatic Sea, which we simply could not resist, so we decided on a weekend getaway to Split. We also stopped by the beautiful Trogir surrounded by medieval walls.
Upon arrival, we checked in at the lovely Hostel AI with the most welcoming owners. After we have freshened up our Split adventure could begin, we stormed the cafes at the main promenade as we needed some sun and coffee, and after that, we spread out and went for lunch as the Split gastro scene is amazing everyone could find something to tickle their taste buds. After a good meal we had a city tour with one of the ESN Split members, he showed us a lot of things, thought us about the history, and gave us a few tips for getting around the Split, after the tour we already felt like locals.
After the tour, we had few hours for ourselves so some of us went exploring, shopping and some just had a beverage to relax after the tiring day. The people from ESN Split went out of their way to make us feel comfortable as they organized a little get-together with us and their ESNers and Erasmus student. Nevertheless, it was very fun as we met a lot of new people and shared our experiences.
On the second day, we had a well-needed breakfast at our hostel. After we took another walk around the Split we had to say bye for now as we were going to Trogir. Old town Trogir is under the protection of UNESCO world heritage and when we arrived we could see why. Its narrow streets, stone walls, and of course amazing cathedral with the breathtaking bell tower. We spent few hours there and headed back to Dubrovnik. It was a short but unforgettable trip and we will be happy to visit beautiful Split and Trogir again.
